How to stay comfortably in a camper van

If you're planning to travel to Maui and looking for a unique way to experience the island, staying in a camper van might be the perfect option for you. Not only does it allow you to explore the island at your own pace, but it also gives you the freedom to go wherever you want and stay as long as you like.

In this post, we'll share some tips and tricks on how to comfortably enjoy your time in a camper van on Maui, so you can have the adventure of a lifetime!

  1. Choose the right camper van: Each of our six camper vans have their own “personality” – from Goldie’s laid-back surfer vibe to Ruby’s beach-house-on-wheels attitude. Take a little time to read through the camper van’s descriptions and choose the one that feels like the best fit for you and your crew!

  2. Plan your route: Before you hit the road, plan your route and decide on the places you want to visit and stay overnight. Maui has plenty of scenic spots and attractions, so make sure you plan accordingly. Also, check for camping sites that allow parking for camper vans. Maui County requires campsite reservations to be made ahead of time (renegade camping is not allowed and is illegal on the island), so decide where you’d like to explore and plan your campgrounds from there!

  3. Pack smart: When living in a camper van, space is limited, so pack smart. Bring only the essentials and avoid overpacking. Make a list of the things you'll need, such as cooking utensils, bedding, and toiletries, and stick to it. Also, consider the climate (rainy/dry season, as well as where you’ll be staying) and pack accordingly.

  4. Stay organized: Living in a small space can be challenging, so it's essential to stay organized. Keep your van clutter-free and have designated areas for everything. This will make it easier to find what you need and keep your living space clean and tidy.

  5. Respect the environment: Finally, while staying in a camper van on Maui, it's crucial to respect the environment. Follow the "Leave No Trace" principles and make sure you dispose of your waste properly. Also, be mindful of the local wildlife and avoid disturbing their habitats.

Staying in a camper van on Maui can be an incredible experience! By choosing the right van, planning your route, packing smart, staying organized, and respecting the environment, you can have a comfortable and memorable time on the island.
